Mohawk Beanie FREE Crochet Pattern

A few years ago I had a special request for a Mohawk to be added to a Beanie.  I looked around at the patterns available and just didn't like the loose strands of yarn attached to make a fluffy mohawk.  I wanted one that would stand up straight!!  So I set to work to design my own.  I have had much fun with this pattern and I hope you will too!!!  Make them in your local team colors and make a statement at the sporting events!!

You can get the PDF version of the pattern HERE.

This is an Original Design by Amy B Stitched. Feel free to make for profit, but remember to give credit to me, and link back to my blog www.amysastitchatatime.blogspot.com  Thank You!!! Amy B

MOHAWK use size G hook. I have written this pattern for the small size with other size adjustments in parenthesis. With that said, Mohawk can be made to any length desired by simply changing the length of the sl st ch’s.
Fold the beanie in half with the seam on the fold, attach CC with a sc in the row above the ribbing as seen in view 1 (this is the back of the beanie).  [Ch 1, sc] evenly along the folded edge of beanie with last sc 3 rows above ribbing in the front. This is the foundation for the Mohawk (See view 2).
w/ size G Hook, Ch 7, (7, 8), turn, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across(this is the sl st ch see view 3), sl st in foundation. Repeat across foundation (see view 4).  I like to have a solid Mohawk without it being overly full so I have 1 sl st ch in each sc of foundation and 2 sl st ch’s  per ch of foundation.  If you would like a thinner Mohawk you will need to eliminate the number of sl st ch’s.  If you would like a bushier Mohawk you will need to add more sl st chains.
Finish off.  Weave in ends securely.
